Welcome to 2017! It’s the New Year… so, does that mean it’s also the New you?

Well, for most of us, we’d like to think so or at the very least plan for it. Every year we make our New Years resolution/goal list. Let’s be honest, how many of us actually follow through with them? Most of us do not follow through with it. We’re gung-ho about it for the first, second, maybe third week, but after that? We get back to our old routine with all kinds of excuses. Things and life always get in the way of accomplishing those goals (at least that’s what we tell ourselves and others).

Why is that? Why do we do this to ourselves year after year? Well, I’d like to believe one of the main reason is that we tend to set an unrealistic goals. What do I mean by that? For example, several years ago one of my goals was to lose 15 lbs. in 2 weeks. Or better yet, I’d like to have six pack abs in a month. Well, for most of us, goals such as those are very unrealistic. Most of us do not have the discipline, support, strong motivation, and money to attain them. So, what can we do to achieve our goals this year? Well, after listening and reading a lot about achieving goals, for me came down to 3 strategies.

First, you have to change your mind on how you view your goals. The mind is a very powerful thing. If you can change the way you view our goals then you’re half way to accomplishing them. Saving money for example, if you continue to view money the way you have always been, then you will never be able to save.

Second, set realistic short term goals. This will help you to be more motivated once you reach your first goal. If you feel good about it, then you’re bound to set more. Start small and work your way up.

Third, support. Despite of what you think, everyone needs support. You cannot achieve your goals by doing it alone. You need to be held accountable for your actions in order to achieve your goals. Select someone you trust and are comfortable with, so that you can be accountable for all of your actions.

Now that you have these 3 steps, go out there and active the “new” you.

Happy New Year and much love,
